We are thrilled to announce the winner of the #HowTheRunShouldEnd contest: “Realizations,” by Adeline Williams. Adeline is a 6th grader from Los Angeles, California. She loves writing and has wanted to be an author since 1st grade. Her ending is now published on ReadWorks to read and share. Watch her interview below:
The runners-up also shared their experiences: "I really enjoyed writing the ending to The Run series. Just writing it itself was already a great experience for me, ending up as a finalist is an awesome bonus!" Elizabeth, 6th Grade “I loved being able to recreate the experience that readers always feel when reading a good book, being able to imagine the story in your mind. I think reading a lot helped me to write this story, because it allowed me to include a lot of details and author's craft. So participating in this contest allowed me to share and express the ideas I always get from reading; I appreciate this contest and hope for many more like this!” Braulio, 5th Grade “Being a runner-up/finalist taught me a valuable lesson. I entered the contest just like anyone else. I didn't expect to get this far. The lesson I learned is that your shot has just as much potential as anyone else's, so take it. Thank you for this amazing experience ReadWorks!” Cora, 7th Grade Read the runners-up here.

I loved hearing aobut this young writer and her motivation to do this contest. I work with K-3 and plan to show this video to my students to given them the encouragement to try something like this. Great interview! Thank you for being so honest and a role model to future writers!
