The Pillars of Reading Comprehension
Now let's dig more into the science behind reading. Successful readers understand what they read. Research shows that this reading achievement in turn impacts motivation (see our full research base). Joyful readers, simply put, enjoy reading because they are skilled readers. ReadWorks, as a supplemental resource, supports this development of successful, joyful reading comprehension in three key ways:
Using Our Content Effectively
With our commitment to providing the highest-quality texts, ReadWorks passages and their curricular supports align with the reading comprehension knowledge and skill goals of the Common Core State Standards and many individual states’ standards.
Using Our Activities Effectively
Professional Development Options
ReadWorks resources for the teaching and learning of reading comprehension are always fully free for educators to use. ReadWorks is happy to support schools with professional development on best practices for using our resources. We have three levels of professional development support, from free national webinars to personalized webinars for schools.
