Your 5th-8th Grade students have the chance
to bring Manuel's story to life! This fall, we're bringing you a brand new contest for students to create an illustration for one Our Family Ghost installment for publication on ReadWorks.
All you need to do is follow these steps!
Our panel of judges will pick one winning image to be published alongside its respective installment on ReadWorks on December 18th, 2023. All images, no matter which installment, will be judged collectively, resulting in one winning entry for one installment, so students should select the installment they feel they can illustrate best. Step 2: DRAW
Introduce the illustration contest to your students.
Students should select one installment of the series and create an illustration to represent that installment.
One illustration will be selected by our panel of judges to be published on ReadWorks with attribution to the artist. Honorable mentions will be selected for each grade level 5th-8th, and will be published on the ReadWorks blog.

Entries will be judged by a panel of experts on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated Understanding of Passage: Does the illustration draw upon events in the selected intallment? Does it make sense based on how the previous installments have unfolded?
- Characters/Scene: Are main characters included and/or accounted for in the illustration? Is the scene of the drawing accurate to the installment’s description? (Characters are not required for entry.)
- Creativity and originality: Is the material thoughtfully and uniquely presented?

All illustrations must be submitted by teachers, parents, or guardians. Review these steps to submit entires to ReadWorks:
No entries will be accepted for judging after midnight Eastern Time November 10th, 2023.
ReadWorks has assembled a panel of judges to pick the winning illustration. All images, no matter which installment, will be judged collectively, resulting in one winning entry for one installment.
Finalist will be announced on December 4th, 2023 and a final winner will be announced on December 18th, 2023. The winner’s’ teacher will be notified of their winning student via the email address provided.
The winning student's illustration will be published with attribution on ReadWorks.org alongside the selected installment in the series. The winner will also receive a certificate and be featured on the ReadWorks blog. The teacher of the winning student will receive a box of ReadWorks goodies and a $100 gift card for classroom supplies.
