ReadWorks for Tutors
ReadWorks is a national edtech nonprofit that is committed to supporting the growth of successful, joyful readers. For the past ten years, our main focus has been on providing educators free high-quality, research-based resources that they can easily integrate into their practice. More than 800,000 teachers and 13.1 million students use ReadWorks every year.
We have known all along that other users can and do benefit from our resources, like tutors. With the pandemic and emergence of high-impact tutoring as a promising way to accelerate learning recovery, ReadWorks launched a virtual 1:1 tutoring pilot in the spring of 2020 with 5th-grade students from a Title 1 New York public school. We created a tutoring protocol grounded in best practices for high-impact tutoring and leveraged our high-quality resources to both build students’ reading comprehension and their motivation to read. Each student met three times a week for 12 weeks with their volunteer tutor, using ReadWorks resources during their 45-minute sessions. By the end, all students who started at 4th/5th-grade texts had moved to 6th-grade texts, and the student reading at 3rd grade had progressed to 5th-grade texts.
We are excited now to provide these structured resources for online one-to-one tutoring for existing tutoring corps that want to expand and scale their reach.

Tutoring FAQs:
How do i create a digital class and add students?
how do i use the reading mindset snapshot
The Reading Mindset Snapshot offers a simple solution to getting to know students more deeply as individual readers. This survey-style inventory tracks students’ joy in reading and the topics they are interested in.
What is the student library?
ReadWorks student library provides an important supplement to reading practice done in class. Students need to read a wide variety of texts independently to build their background knowledge and vocabulary—more than can be accounted for during instruction time alone. In the student library, there are never any questions or assessments—just reading for the joy of reading and learning. Also, when students are given a choice in this independent reading, research has shown that they often can read and comprehend higher level texts.

how do i find passages for my student?
The ReadWorks library of thousands of curated nonfiction and fiction passages gives you all you need to have your students read widely and often. Under Content, use the filters on the left to search by type of passage, grade level, and topic to find the exact right passages to supplement what you are studying with your students. Passages also come with text-dependent question sets so your students can practice rereading and digging into the text.
How to Use ReadWorks Filters
We offer several different ways to filter through the ReadWorks library and you can use multiple search filters at the same time. To get started, click on "Content" in the upper navigation bar.
When you click on each option, you will be shown the content on our site that best matches your search. For example, if you check 'Article-A-Day sets', you will be shown all of the Article-A-Day sets on our site.
