ReadWorks will deliver Spanish texts––created by native Spanish-speaking authors––with accompanying English text alignments. With access to similar topic matters in both their native language and English, students will grow their reading comprehension and build confidence in reading through passages with authentic voices and content.

The Research
Research shows that the skills students gain in one language are transferable to other languages. When a student has an opportunity to read both in their native language and English, they tap into linguistic resources that may not otherwise be accessible. The inclusion of native-language materials leads to improved outcomes in English reading, including spelling and comprehension. Furthermore, increased background knowledge about a topic helps students better understand what they are reading, even when the material is above their reading level.
When using our Authentic Spanish Texts, English Language Learners will read the Spanish-language passage before the English-language passage. The Spanish-language passage will give them familiarity with the topic and vocabulary and make the content and language of the English-language passage easier for them to understand.
