"ReadWorks was a savior for my class this year. I work at a Title I school in rural New Hampshire. At the start of the year, many of my students were two grades below reading level. They struggled to comprehend even basic texts, and were resistant to do anything to do with reading. With ReadWorks being a free resource, it has been so important and easy to me as a teacher to help my students access texts that are engaging, fun, and educational.
By now, in June, we are printing out the articles and students are ALL working at their grade level. They are able to read passages aloud, and answer the full set of questions including written responses. Printing out the article has taught students how to highlight and identify text evidence, which initially was a huge challenge for them. Furthermore, my Spanish speaking student loves that I can include him and he can have texts in his strongest language.
ReadWorks has helped my class grow not only academically but also socially. Students who were initially quiet and resistant to working with others now love doing our ReadWorks routines in partnerships. It’s so nice watching students connect with each other and bounce ideas off of each other when responding to the texts."
