A Full Week of High-Quality Lesson Ideas
There's nothing like the buzz in a classroom the week of Halloween. At ReadWorks, we love turning that energy into meaningful reading practice, so we pulled together a full week of our best (and always free!) spooky and bat themed articles and stories.
This 5-day plan was built with intention, and each day zeroes in on a different reading skill and builds on what students practiced the day before. Students get real practice with setting and mood, sequencing and plot structure, main idea and supporting details, citing text evidence, author's craft, and character traits and tone, all while every extension activity stays genuinely optional. If you teach grades 3–6 and want purposeful, no-prep reading activities to carry your class through Halloween week, this free plan is for you! → Get your free plan
Here's what the 5-day plan entails.
Monday through Friday
Each day includes a before-reading vocabulary activity, the text itself, a guided after-reading discussion, built-in questions, and one optional extension.
